Alok Sharma is set to deliver his first major public address since taking over from Gavin Barwell as housing and planning minister at RESI 2017, which takes place at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales on 13-15 September.

Alok Sharma housing minister

In his keynote speech, Sharma will provide the first real insight into how the government’s housing agenda has evolved since the snap general election and, critically, shed some light on the future of the housing white paper.

Sharma, who was elected MP for Reading West in 2010, became the 15th housing minister in the past 17 years back in June after Barwell lost his seat in the general election.

At the time, he said he was “honoured to be appointed and to work on building the homes Britain needs”.

Sharma worked in corporate finance advisory with Nikko Securities and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken before moving into politics.
