Crosslane has secured planning consent to deliver purpose-built student accommodation developments in Swansea and Edinburgh.
A 307-bed development will be located on The Kingsway in Swansea and an 83-bed unit will be constructed on Calton Road in Edinburgh.
Completion of both schemes is due in time for the 2019/20 academic year. Prime Student Living, the student accommodation lettings and operational management arm of Crosslane, will be responsible for the marketing, lettings and management of the completed student accommodations.
The Kingsway site in Swansea is currently a car park and restaurant, situated north-west of the city centre within close proximity to the primary shopping area and the mainline station. The new purpose-built, high specification student accommodation scheme will comprise 26 self-contained studio apartments and 281 en-suite cluster flats of between five and nine bedrooms.
The property will also feature a private landscaped courtyard and significant dedicated communal areas to encourage collaborative working and socialising. The ground floor includes bicycle storage, a reception and management area for resident students, as well as a retail unit fronting onto The Kingsway.
At the Calton Road site in Edinburgh, currently a car valeting business located opposite the New Parliament, 80 en-suite studio apartments and three one-bedroom flats will be delivered. A common room, washer/driers, gym, outdoor courtyard and cycle storage will be provided across four storeys. Student residents will benefit from 100 Mbps internet/Wi-Fi speed.
Jon Stewart, director at Crosslane Student Developments, said: “Both schemes are right in the heart of the city centre and within very easy reach of the local universities. At 307 and 83 beds, respectively, they will help to provide efficient solutions to the shortage of quality housing for students in their respective cities.”
