Dalata maintains pace of Clayton hotels expansion

Dalata Hotel Group has significantly increased the size of its Clayton brand during the last four months, according to its latest trading update.

The number of rooms available in Clayton hotels has increased from 1,588 to 2,904, following the rebranding of three former Clarion hotels and a former Doubletree by Hilton site. There are now 17 Clayton hotels in Ireland and the UK with 4,369 rooms.

Construction has started on the Clayton Hotel Charlemont with completion due in the middle of 2018, while planning permission has been secured for a 140-room extension at the Clayton Hotel Dublin Airport.

In November, Dalata announced the first hotel as part of a roll-out of new hotels in the UK. Construction is underway at the 226-room Maldron Hotel Newcastle, which is due to open in the summer of 2018.

The group said: “We continue to actively look for further opportunities to open new hotels in the UK under the capital light leasing model.”

Overall, the group said trading in the final four months of the year had been “marginally ahead” of expectations.

Revenue per available room in the Dublin market, the group’s largest region, was up 11.6% for the 11 months to November, compared to the same period in 2015.

The group said “strong progress” was being made on its development pipeline in Ireland, with plans to add more than 950 rooms to its owned and leased portfolio.

Construction is underway on the Maldron Hotel in Belfast and is due for completion in the second quarter of 2018, while construction will start in January on the Maldron Hotel Kevin Street.
