Dalata Hotel Group has signed a lease with ES Newgate, a subsidiary of McAleer & Rushe, to operate a new Maldron Hotel in Newcastle.
The hotel will be the first Maldron site in England and is expected to open in the summer of 2018.
Dalata, which has 16 hotels in Dublin, will take a 35-year operating lease which will be subject to five year rent reviews linked to the retail price index.
Featuring 226 bedrooms,a bar, restaurant, and meeting rooms, the 4-star facility will be part of a mixed-use development alongside student accommodation and shops.
Located on Newgate Street in the city centre, the site is a short walk from Central Station and is close to St James’ Park stadium.
Dermot Crowley, deputy chief executive at Dalata, said: “This development provides us with an exciting opportunity to launch our Maldron brand in the English market, in line with our strategy of rolling out our Clayton and Maldron brands in the large regional UK cities.”
Dalata currently operates nine hotels in the UK. They include six Clayton hotels, with two in London and one each in Belfast, Cardiff, Leeds and Manchester.
The company also operates the Croydon Park Hotel in London, a Maldron hotel in Belfast and another in Derry.
