Legal & General has made a double hire to strengthen its housing team, poaching two senior figures from Berkeley Homes and build-to-rent (BTR) developer Essential Living.
Damon Brown, previously senior programme manager at Essential Living, joins L&G as construction portfolio manager, where he will oversee construction in the firm’s development projects. He will also assist on L&G’s investments in BTR and build-to-sell assets and other housing initiatives.
David Jones, who was previously production director at Berkeley, will join L&G as modular integration director. He will be responsible for the interaction between L&G’s clients and the firm’s modular construction factory in Leeds, which is the largest in Europe. When opened, the factory is expected to produce up to 3,500 homes a year.
L&G is currently one of the major players in the UK BTR market. It has a pipeline of 1,400 units with an expected GDV of £420m. It also owns CALA, the upmarket housebuilder.
The pair will report into James Lidgate, director of housing at Legal & General Capital.
