Developer wins Dagenham scheme by a Countryside mile

The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham has selected Countryside Properties as the preferred developer to regenerate Goresbrook Village in Dagenham.

The residential scheme, which replaces three tower blocks, will include 149 new homes, 98 of which will be council homes and 51 of which will be sold on the open market.

Almost three-quarters of the scheme, designed by Stitch Studio and Mae Architects, will be made up of three- and four-bedroom family homes, while 28% will be one- and two-bedroom apartments. 14 will be designed to wheelchair standards.

Work on the site is expected to complete by March 2015.

Richard Cherry, deputy chairman of Countryside Properties, said: “Our selection continues a strong record of regeneration work in Barking & Dagenham. We have already completed projects on the Gascoigne Estate and at Lymington Fields in Chadwell Heath and we are delighted to be selected for Goresbrook Village.”

Cllr Phil Waker, cabinet member for housing in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, added: “On top of the new homes that will soon appear on these sites, 146 new council houses have already been built across the borough on a number of sites, and 477 new homes for affordable rent are just about to be built on two sites in Barking. As well as this there are a number of other new building projects across the borough either starting soon or being now planned.”
