St Modwen has been granted planning permission for a second phase of housing at a £400m mixed-use scheme on the former RAF Locking site in Western-super-Mare.

The second phase of the Locking Parklands scheme will include 150 homes and 6,000 sq ft of office space, with a further 1,250 homes  and 650,000 sq ft of office space along with retail and community facilities planned over the next 20 years. Work is expected to begin in the autumn.

The Housing and Communities Association has invested £6m in the first phase of the development, which launched in November, taking the total amount of investment in the scheme to more than £12.2m since 2002.

Nick Alexander, senior residential land manager at St Modwen, said: “The popularity of the first phase of 100 homes at Locking Parklands has shown a clear need for new housing opportunities in Weston.”
