Hammerson plans Welsh retail extension

Emma Haslett

Hammerson has submitted plans for an extension at Cyfarthfa Retail Park in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales.

The £22m, 150,000 sq ft extension will be anchored by a 50,000 sq ft Marks & Spencer store. It will also have space for seven other units, including a B&Q store.

Hammerson originally developed the retail park, currently 256,000 sq ft, in 2005. Current occupiers include Debenhams, Next, New Look, Arcadia and Costa Coffee.

Russell Beresford, Hammerson’s development manager, said: “We have been greatly encouraged by the council’s constructive approach to the project.”

Subject to planning approval, work on the extension will begin in 2013, completing in 2014.
