Plans for first Stoke-on-Trent build to rent scheme revealed

Genr8 has revealed plans to build two 11-storey build to rent blocks in Stoke-on-Trent as part of its Smithfield scheme.

The project is being developed by Genr8 in partnership with the Stoke-on-Trent City Council-owned housing company Fortior Homes.

The scheme has been designed specifically for build to rent, with the first residential block delivering 151 flats.

It will also include leisure, commercial and retail opportunities on the ground floor.

A further 126 units will be delivered in the second building as part of a future phase, subject to approval.

A public consultation for the scheme has now been launched and a planning application for the two blocks will be submitted to the city council in mid-August.

Councillor Randy Conteh said: “Historically there has been a lack of major residential development in Stoke-on-Trent’s city centre in comparison to similar-sized cities like Derby and Leicester.

“This would be a high quality development which will set a benchmark for similar schemes in the city and beyond, and importantly will remain affordable for people living or working in Stoke-on-Trent.

“It will primarily target 20 to 35-year-old single people and couples already living here, as well as those commuting here for work.”

The scheme forms part of the wider Smithfield Stoke-on-Trent project, which is a multi-phased mixed-use development.
