Metropolis is one of the many fans of cult movie DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, but we haven’t yet been moved to host an industry-wide tournament celebrating the sport.
By contrast, the folks at Lockton Real Estate & Construction hosted their inaugural charity dodgeball tournament last month - and let’s say there were as many dodgy outfits as dodged balls.
Hosted at Powerleague Docklands, the event featured 15 teams who donned their best fancy-dress costumes, including 118-inspired ’70s gymwear, Super Mario and St Trinian’s to raise close to £4,500 for the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity.
In the final, insurance group Aspen took on industry heavyweight Allianz, with Aspen emerging in true underdog fashion to claim the title.
We hope the parallels ended there and none of the participants followed Patches O’Houlihan’s training mantra: “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”
