After months of painstaking research, Property Week launched its inaugural Power 100 last week at an event hosted by co-sponsor Dentons. Unfortunately, all the hard work was very nearly undone by a slip of the bum…
The evening began smoothly enough with excellent speeches by Dentons’ Rob Thompson and Anne Johnstone from Malcolm Hollis, the Power 100’s other sponsor. Then PW’s editor Liz Hamson took to the stage to unveil the final list - and it was at this point that our man in charge of the slides made the near-fatal error.
Settling in for numbers 100 to 91, he leaned back and let his derrière connect with the keyboard, causing slides to flash up and reveal the rankings through to 50. The situation was soon rectified, but not before it prompted gasps from the audience.
It wasn’t the only quick save of the evening. One member of the Power 100 was appalled to discover that she had to have her picture taken, not because of crippling shyness but because she was wearing flats. Fortunately, one of the PW team turned out to take the same size - as well as share the same taste - and came to the rescue.
Happy endings all round - just.
